Hi Terence,

The Dorset History Centre looks a good place to start.
It's in Dorchester, and appears to have good records for the area you're looking for - here's the link - http://www.dorsetforyou.com/index.jsp?articleid=386638

If you search the catalogue, you'll find what type of documents they have - Melbury Osmond is well covered, and there's even an entry for a Richard Palmer of Melbury Osmond being granted a marriage licence - could he be yours?

Good luck in your search, and have a good trip,

I don't know about that particular centre but you do need to book in advance at most of them to make sure you have access to a film or fiche reader if necessary.  The only way you can see details from a GRO entry is to buy the certficate.

I go to that records office quite a lot. I've never had to book anything in advance. The staff are very helpful. It's always good to take some sort of I D with you as some records are of limits with out I D.
Please scan photos at 300dpi or higher. Thank you.

Hi,

If you can arrange your visit for a Saturday you will find parking a lot easier because the main office car park will be almost empty!  During the week only a few spaces are available for the History Centre.
