Croy Historical Society are running out of temporary premises in Cumbernauld
at the moment. And i'm not sure the website is being answered at present.
So it's best to put any further info on the subject of Auchinstarry Row
on here on Rootschat.

I believe my grandfather John Jim Daly from Glen Straduff, Co. Sligo lived here in the early 1900s. His brother Patrick certainly did.
Patrick married fellow resident Annie McCann, had a large family before they all emigrated to New York. Is there a way to track John Jim's presence in Auchenstarry

Sad to announce that Croy Historical Society has now disbanded.
So any replies will need to come from the rootchatters on this website.
Yours,

Hi mdaly8342

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

A couple of ways of looking for records would be the censuses (1901 or the last currently available 1911). Also, you could search online the valuation rolls (see here for notes on them www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/Content/Help/index.aspx?2080).

I can see on the VR index (haven't viewed it) a John Dale showing at Auchinstarry Row between at least 1905 - 1920. You should be able to find this John Dale on the 1911 census which includes more personal details to be able to confirm if this is your John Jim.

Original images for these and all Scottish BMDs are available to view on line on the pay to view site Scotlands People.

I think this is the John Dale I mentioned above in the 1901 Scottish census:

John Dale 44 Labourer Coke Over b. Ireland
Catherine Dale 40 b. Ireland
Mary Dale 15 b. Ireland
Catherine Florence Dale 13 b. Ireland
Edward Hally 40 miner boarder b. Ireland
Michael Mcinulty 28 miner boarder b. Ireland
Michael Hughes 23 miner boarder b. Ireland
John Hughes 20 miner boarder b. Ireland

Address: 85 Auchenslarry Row, Cumbernauld

Is this John Jim and family? Likely this is the same John Dale who shows in the 1911 census and also the VRs.

Sorry MonicaL, I have only just seen your responses to my post. Thanks for your interest.
I dont think John Dale is my John Jim DALY. He would have been about 20 in 1901 and was back in Sligo in 1911.
I have just tracked down another brother Michael Joseph Daly who was living in 86 Auchinstarry Row in 1921

Hi, just a thought perhaps the local church would have some records or be able to put you in touch with someone who was a member of the now disbanded Croy Historical Society.
They have a website with contact details.
