Hubert Burluraux
« on: Friday 24 July 09 12:30 BST (UK) »
Hi there I have recieved a marraige certificate for Hubert who married in England

I have found him on the 1861 census but cannot find him anywhere else  it just says France as place of bith

I have looked for him in the 1871 census but no sign of him or his wife or children

if they went to to and fro to France would it be recorded anywhere?

He died in England in 1874

thanks

It would not be recorded in England - they didn't keep records for ships coming too/from Europe.

So I see Hubert married in Leeds in 1859 - who was his father? Who were the witnesses to the marriage, and what was the address?
There was a "Sibastian" who married in 1854 - brother?  He appears to have naturalised in 1876 ("Burluraux, Sebastian"), this could be a very good clue to the family's origins.

They were in the 1871 census, they are in Leeds at RG10/4554 folio 4 page 1
Name looks like Buluraure
Hubert, 45, shop keeper hawker, b. France
Sushana, 33, b. Leeds
Lucy A, 11, b. Leeds
Sebastian, 9, b. Leeds

How old was Hubert in 1861?
There are many BURLURAUX in the department of Meuse, France...
Miller, Millner, Mullaney, Sailer, Schweinler - New York
Müller - Baden, Germany
Mueller - Cleveland Ohio
Müller/Mueller - Bernergebiet, Switzerland

There should be somewhere in Ancestry to input piece/folio numbers for the census. Alternatively, try searching just by first name; a name like Burluraux would be easily misspelt by the enumerator or subsequently mistranscribed.

You can search for (and order) naturalisations from the NA:
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/
(just search on surname).

The Burluraux families in the area b. France seem to be
Sebastian, b. abt 1830, m. 1854 in Leeds, lived in Huddersfield in 1861-1881 (on 1881 he is S. Burluraux). D. 1884 in Doncaster.  In 1861 he was listed as "Basket Merchant"
Also Joseph N. (b. about 1825, basket manufacturer) and his cousin August (b. abt 1837, basket maker), both living in Leeds in 1871.  Joseph is still in Leeds in 1881.
then there's Hubert.

It seems likely that these folks were all related.

ETA: But that Hubert on geneanet has father Pierre, and from the wedding certificate it is Francis?

Hi

yes my GGgrandfather was on the 1871 census with Joseph and August  william Hodgson it was his aunt who married Hubert and Alphonso collignon married his niece he was in the house too (wrong age but it is him)

I was thinking sebastion went to Huddersfield and hubert went to Leeds and with the name like Burluraux they must be related and I have found that Collignon was involved in the family to by marrage in France so it looks like they kept it in the family

thanks for your help much appreciated
