wedding cert
« on: Friday 24 July 09 21:00 BST (UK) »
I have a wedding certificate that does not give much away. Ages state full what is full age?. One of the witnesses the signature is unreadable, Would the church hold more and legible information? The church is Carlow church.

Thanks

Hellow Richard-s.
The church where the marriage took place may very well have a more legible record than the civil register,as many churches keep their own records. It may also be worth contacting the issuing office  and asking if the original copy can be read more clearly.I have found the Carlow office of B.D.M. very helpful.
  Good luck Diarmuid

Richard,

You probably won't get an age from the parish register, unless the couple happened to be baptised in the same church and you check the baptism register.  I've never seen an age on a church register.  Full is supposed to mean over 21 but I have independently verified some of my ancestors as only 17 or 18 on marriages, where the cert said full.  The witness information should be there though, possibly even with an address for them.
