Ivy Rose;
What exactly are you looking for? I have not done extensive research on this line other than finding Lydia’s Bpt. and her parents, who Mar.1733 in Ewhurst. I do not know of Samuel’s origins. Richard Smith from my previous post was the father of another Richard Smith, bpt.1857 in Sedlescombe, who went to London. His mother, Ann Goodsell was a dau. of William Goodsall & a Susan Crouch. How are you connected??

My main interest, though I've adopted all lines, is in CROUCH. Elizabeth CROUCH 1840-1915 Ewhurst m1861 Henry BRYANT 1842-1914 s/o William BRYANT and Elizabeth HAYLER. William was s/o William BRYANT and Mary KEMP. AS you will be aware, this William was s/o James and Hannah.

I have been working to prove that Elizabeth CROUCH's father Oliver 1808-1985 was a sibling of George CROUCH b1805. George's parents were John CROUCH b1764 and Mary VIDLER b ca 1765. George was their 9th child as far as I have been able to determine.

On the 1851 census Ewhurst, Oliver CROUCH and George CROUCH live side-by-side.

I am afraid that you are maybe barking up the wrong tree. According to what I have from the p.r. of  Ewhurst , Oliver Hodges was the bastard son of Rose Crouch bpt. 1808-12-11; who married Frances Yorke 1837-4-22 at Ewhurst. His dau. Bpt.1841-3-7 Elizabeth Crouch,  did M. 1861-12-14 at Sedlescombe to Henry Bryant, 19 yrs.
Rose Crouch was a dau. of William & Lucy Barrow who had another bastard son, William in 1811.
As far as I know, Oliver Crouch was not a sibling to this George, sorry.

Well. The bastard son was using his father's surname? I wonder who Rose's parents were. I cannot fathom that all these Ewhurst and nearby Crouches were not related somehow.

Oh brother. Sorry. You gave me Rose's parents. Knee-jerk. I did have all of the dates you provided, but for Oliver and Frances' marriage date. I have her birth at 1813 which now does not seem likely. Truly, I've done only a cursory search for these folks. I may abandon it now pending more data to make connections. Sigh.

He seemed to be known all his life as Oliver Crouch, and I could not see any bastardly record for him, so do not know for sure if that was the father. I did find one for his brother William, Philip Lake of Brede was accused of being the father.
No doubt the Crouches were related, but further back, as it was a fairly common name. Sorry I could not help further and proof a family connection between us.
