She was baptised 1885 Helmdon, mother is listed as Anna, and transcribed on Anc*** as Anne. Louisa and Elizabeth were baptised at the same time.

There was also Phoebe baptised 1873, and Walter in 1869

we are thinking one of two things either Hannah on the cesus i Ada's biological mother and that on the baptism record 'Anna' is just a badly written or transcribed version of Hannah

Or Anna is Adas mother, this is our first thought on this, and maybe she died and Ada and her brother ended up with Hannah and Hannah's father ( which would be Adas paternal Grandfather) This is unlikely as all children on both census are listed as sons and daughters. We think Phoebe and Walter may have died as children.

My niece and I are off to the National Archives tomorrow. Last we went we ordered and paid for Adas birth certifcate but the money was later returned when the email to say there was no such birth certificate in existence. But we know she existed as she was my Nan's mum!

We had hope this site may have connected us to the family or distant family who may have had answers :)

Ada's birth is registered, Sep Quarter 1883, Brackley, ref 03b 9

If you remember that almost certainly Hannah would not have been able to, or very good at, reading and writing, "Anna" and "Hannah" become interchangeable.

If you go to the GRO site at https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/login.asp, and search for Ada in 1883, you will find her. No mother's maiden name, indicating again probable illegitimacy. You can order the certificate from there, don't enter a mother's name, just use the reference.
