Thanks for your input, Paullo.  It seems pretty clear that the 1833 Charles Duddridge was eliminated from consideration at an early age.  I believe that the William Duddridge mentioned in the law suit was probably Charles's brother who was a mason [as were many of the Duddridges] resident in and around Stogumber/Quantock Moor until at least 1861, after which he moved to Bristol.
Wiltshire:  Banks, Taylor

Hi, did a bit more checking - you probably have this by now but in 1841 Charles was living at home with his parents John and Sarah Duddridge at Kingswood in Stogumber. Think I have an old picture of Kingswood somewhere. His father was also a mason - age 45 in 1841.John probably fell on hard times in later life. May be worth looking at British Library site - http://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/ - two interesting hits on a John Dudderidge
13 Jan 1871 W.Gazette in Williton workhouse - don't think this is yours.
10 Aug 1898 Taunton Courier (since its looking back - could be interesting).

[quote author=paullo There are still Duddrudges living in Stogumber and Crowcombe. Many used to be Baptists. Some worked at Crowcombe Court. An old picture which I believe is in two books on Crowcombe shows the staff including Duddridge back c 1860.

Where are the books on Crowcombe?
