Well Hello there...lol....nice to meet you....Do you know much about Harry Friel?, I have been trying to find his uncle William's family in scotland, he died there in 1911, hitting a brick wall, this can be very frustrating but when you connect with extended family it can be very rewarding. what is your relationship to Harry Friel? are you in touch with his family in Derry?

Hi, so we connected by Friel's!  I am not in contact with the Greenock Friel's, not for the want of trying.  I have the obit for Harry's wife Annie Friel who would be my grandfather's first cousin.

Annie Friel: (nee Friel) peacefully at the Holy Rosary Residence, 44 Union Street, Greenock on Sunday 5 June, 2011.  Annie, beloved wife of the late Henry Leo Friel.  Much loved mother of John, James, Henry and Margaret.  Devoted grandmother and great grandmother. Sadly missed.

I would only be related to Harry through his children in Greenock. My 3rd cousins.

Have you posted on the Scotland Board of Roots Chat for William Friel?

No, I must do that, William died there when he was 33 but brought home for burial, can't find his wife and children in Ireland so I assumed they stayed in Scotland, though that would be really unusal..My grandfather was also Henry Leo, it is a very common family name as the orginal Henry Leo, who is John P's youngest brother died when he was 15, every generation of the Friels since has had a Henry Leo, in fact Harry Friel (your harry friel) sister Florrie has a son called Henry Leo too. Do you know anything of Harry and Anne's family decendants? I have texted his grand daughter to ask if she knows anything of Harry ... but seriously the Friels should all have worked for the C.I.A they tell you nothing, I have to work for months sometimes years to find out info they already know.....lol...God love them...lol...Are you Scottish?

I am a 19 year old from Derry , researching my family history the past few weeks. I have found out that my great great great grandparents were john Friel and Mary Jane Friel (Coyle) married 1880. On the marriage record it looks like the friels lived in creggan terrace? In 1901 they lived in 8 Fahan Street and later in Rosville Street. I am connected to these two through their son , William who married who married ellen shiels in 1911. Their daughter is my grandmothers mother.

John (born 1860/1 - 1931) his father was also John friel my great great great great grandfather but have no further information on him other than name , however somebody mentioned here that he was from Donegal.

Hi,
John Friel and Mary Jane Coyle are my great great grandparents, William Friel and Nellie Sheils are my great grandparents. I have been researching the family tree for the past 10 years. It's nice to see someone from the younger generation taking an interest in the family tree.

Yes that's Mary Janes parents, both were dead by 1899. Rosanna was Biddys sister, she married Hugh Crossin
