Sorry if I get carried away - you must be a 'direct line' person, whereas I am a 'all the family' person!

I dont know how you will get back any further. In 1851 Sparks said he was born Hampshire.
IGI has no Jarvis or SParks born Hampshire.

1841 seems to have only one Freed in Hampshire, a 30 yr old William but he says not born in county.

is Sparky any more specific about his place of birth on any later censuses I wonder.

I am a Family person also, I tend to only go 1 generation to the side of the mail line unless I am looking for something particular though.

I wonder why the difference between some daughters just being "at home" and some being "house servants at home" ! Did Susan and Elizabeth do all the work while Emily and Sarah just sat with their feet up?
