Are you using the advanced search on Familysearch and then going to the IGI ( International Genealogical Index)??
If you need help on how to use it to the best advantage please ask.

There is a christening of a John Dally 1766 ( parents John and Sarah) on there also.
This fits with your Johns age on 1841 Census.
But there could have been more than one around so it is hard to confirm it is him.

Going by the childrens names of John/Francis things look pretty good though.

Approach the IGI through the Hugh Wallis website - not totally up to date with new additions but it allows you to search just on the particular parish register you want to look at in the is case Crediton Devon

Trish, could you please list the children of Robert Dally b1802 and Ann Sims from the 1851 or 1841 Census?

I think there are 13.

Also with Robert's father -- John Dally b1766 his father John mother Sarah (from the  IGI christenings).

Would I be assuming too much in thinking John Dally snr married Sarah Greenslade in Crediton Devon on 14-10-1798, from marriages on IGI, as it appears they are the only ones around that time.

I'm doing this for my cousin who claims his ancestors came originally from Ireland. There appears to be no details on John Dally snr and at a wild guess I wonder if this could be the Irish link. I guess the next step is to try and find out which county he came from.

Hard to know which one or even if John/Sarah were born in Devon or even England unfortunately. Although the name Dally seems to go way back on th IGI.
None of the surnames we have found sound particullarly Irish.
