James Comrie of Kilsyth
« on: Saturday 22 August 09 16:54 BST (UK) »
I am researching into the family of my paternal grandfather,James  Jas Comrie, b.1878 in Kilsyth, died 1927 in Distington Cumbria. James married Helen Cleland in 1902 in Kilsyth .They had one child that I can find ,Agnes  b.1903. Helen alas died in 1905 aged 23. I am trying to establish if there was another child and that Helen possibly died in childbirth. James was resident with his family at 40,Newtown Street,Kilsyth in 1901, I would like to know what happened to him after 1905 and until 1911 when he turns up in West Cumbria and is working as a miner.  Regards.     picamarra

Hi picamarra

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

Did Helen die in Scotland in 1905? If so, are there any clues as to the cause of death that could perhaps relate to child birth/pregnancy?

Does daughter Agnes show with father James in the 1911 census in West Cumbria?

Monica  :)

Hi Monica.

Thankyou for your quick reponse.  Agnes does not appear on the 1911 census as being in West Cumbria, My grandfather James is living as a boarder in Main Street. Distington, but no trace of Agnes. regards.  picamarra.

Hard to say at this stage whether more children were born between 1903-5 isn't it. The Scottish census is not due out till Spring 2011. Regarding mother Helen, you could view her death cert on line at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk, it is pay to view but reasonable.

Hi
Just started looking at Rootschat after many years off.
Regarding your question on James Anderson Comrie. My 3 times g/grandfather Peter Comrie is Jame's  g/grandfather. Information I received from a family member shows James (b) 1878 Kilsyth (d) 1927 & married Helen Frew CLELAND (b) abt 1881 (m) 1902 Kilsyth. 1st child Agnes Tunnock COMRIE (b) 1902 & 2nd child Ellinor Bowe COMRIE (b) 1905 (d) 1960 (m) 1933 to R SHAW
You might already have this after so long.
Regards
Anderson
