Sad to say that no Daniel GOWER died in Thanet in 1973, in fact no Gower at all
Any chance you may have made a mistake.

Yes, sorry my mistake, can't read my own writing

Born 5th April 1926 Stepney, Mothers Maiden Name: Harris
Married Esther Maureen Cooper 1961 Thanet
Died 1978 Thanet (Margate Sea Bathing Hospital)

On freeBMD I cant find either the marriage or the death however I know both to be correct. (I hope!!) Strange!

Excellent, will try this week if no one beats me to it.
I take it you shall stop for a quick half in Barnaby Rudge while your visiting? :0)
There is still some remains of St Mildreds Hotel in Westgate

My Dad lived at St Mildred's Court before he died about 15 years ago, is / was that the same place??
I shall be visiting lots of places when we finally get over, I need to photograph a house called 'Ocean View' Beach Road, Westgate (if I can find it), Sparrow Court, Margate, and a visit and photo opportunity at the pub where I grew up, The Queens Head Hotel in Market Square Margate... we came from a long line of boozers, sorry publicans!!

Yes, St Mildred's Hotel became flats so you can still photograph this

Sadly Sparrow Court has not houses left just workshops.

The Queen's Head is still standing and now known as the Wig and Pen.

Ocean View, have you a time frame and I can then work out what number it is today x

Ocean View is the name from 1916! I was hoping that like a lot of houses the old name may remain on the house or on the glass above the front door, I suspect the only way to find out is to wander along and look at every house, that was what I was planning on anyway! I was born in Elm Grove so will be along there for a snap too!

I don't have any directories that early I'm afraid. The earliest I have is 1929 Kelly's Directory
While looking through my Westgate Electors Register for 1934 I came across the name hand, may just be a coincidence
Charles Henry and Edith Elizabeth at 5 Belmont Terrace, Belmont Road

Anyhoo, while at the library looking up Daniel Gower I will see if they have a 1916 Directory, I know they stopped for the war and started up again after but could try the 1915 or 1914 too.

Love these Thanet mysteries

That is no coincidence, thats my paternal Gran & Grandad !!  I wonder if that means he was still with her Westgate in 1934 - I suppose it does!!?  I have no idea when he jaunted off to New Zealand, I only know that my Mum had no recollection of him and she knew the family many years before her and my Dad married.
