Hi Len and welcome to RootsChat

Llanfihangel Geneur Glyn, Cardiganshire (near Talybont)

Cornelius Griffiths  Head  Mar  63  Chelsea Pentioner  b Llanbadarn-Fawr, Cardiganshire
Mary Griffiths  Wife  Mar  50  b Llanbadarn-Fawr, Cardiganshire

Cornelius has been transcribed on A***  as Carmeline

1841 Class: HO107; Piece 1372; Book: 16; Folio: 7; Page: 5; Line: 5

Penghyly Village, Llanfihangel Geneur Glynn

Cornelius Griffiths   54   L.O. Miner   (probably Lead)
Gwen Griffiths   50
Evan Griffiths   20   L.O. Miner
John Griffiths   10
Jane Griffiths   9

All born Cardiganshire

The 1841 census doesn't show relationships or actual place of birth, and ages of people over 15 should be rounded down to the nearest 5 years (but maybe not in this case)

Hope this helps

Thankyou Linda, essentially my first post contains most of the information I have regarding the Welsh end of my family heritage, scant as it is. I intend to travel to UK in the next year or so and would like to visit the area of my family name ancestory. I'd be interested in resting place of Cornelius and Mary and if direct members of that family are still in the area. Quite interestingly I have 3 children, my (eldest) son is now a mining engineer, although my Grandfather Sydney was an Assayer (mining related), there have not been miners in our family until my son entered that field?? little did we know!!. Thankyou

Len

Hi Len

That sounds a bit like my family.  When my son was born we named him Richard.  It was only years later, when I started to do my family history, that I discovered a whole string of father and son Richards.  :D

Linda

PS I know there's a time difference, but is it really May in Alice Springs??   :D

Mary would look to be the second wife. Getting the marriage certificate would give you another generation

Cornelius Griffiths june qtr 1849 Aberystwyth vol 27 pg 39 with Mary Jones or Mary Morgan(s) on the same page

death reg
Gwen Griffiths june qtr 1848 Aberystwyth vol 27 pg 17

Births & baptisms for children appear in IGI batch C102771 for Bethel Talybont Independent, so they were non-conformist
Mary born 27/1/1818 bp 4/2/1818 dau of Cornelius & Gwenllian Griffiths
Evan born 28/4/1820 bp 20/5/1821 son of Cornelius & Gwen Griffiths

Cornelius Griffiths married Gwen Jones 16/11/1816 in Llanfihangel Genau'r Glyn parish church, both of the parish. There's a submitted entry for this on the IGI, but it also appears in an index I have.

You can get a copy of the parish entry from the record office in Aberystwyth.

The records of Bethel Independent are in RG4 at the National Archives, so should be available to search for a fee here - it's easy to spend very quickly!

Thankyou to both danuslave and Osprey!! there is so much information here to digest when I consider I knew very little about this part of my family. Can you advise how I would research further back in time from Cornelius, his parents etc etc?

Linda not sure about the reference to May? I only see time on my posts? and I've double checked the date/time on my PC ? maybe gremlins (are they Welsh??)

once again I'm very grateful for your assistance on this research
