All I know is they Left Ireland to Auckland New Zealand in 1862  As a news paper article says about the family movements, sadly did not have the parents names, but all the children's names and how they moved to the South Island and set up family life there.

Barry Hickand's father started the bicycle business at Roses's Lane Ends, between Lower Ballinderry and Glenavy.I bought a bike there around 1970.

Hi

Looking for  the household of the Hickland family.  I am unable to say who the parents were, but have been able to find these names that may be of help.  Joseph born abt 1849, William abt 1840, Richard abt 1844 and David abt 1849, these brothers came to New Zealand in 1862 along with two sisters who became nuns.

Regards
Suzy W

There are no Hickland names on the 1851 census remaims.
I have an 1100 page Adobe Acrobat document containing the 1851 census remains. If you PM me your email addy, I can send you a copy. (9MB )

Hi OTTO
The PFD document you have does it contain all of the 1851 census remains for Co. Antrim? Would it be possible to get a copy?

Thanks

Thank you all

I was able to find a few more on the Hicklands in New Zealand via Papers Past.  William came to NZ in 1862 on his own.  Now I am lost on how and when did his brother Joseph come here, I found on the burial records he came here aged 27, so that would make it about 1876.  I have been scrolling all the shipping records a few years on each side, and that is no easy task, and still no luck.
Both brothers lived in the same country town of Rangiora, North Canterbury.
William had two daughters who became nuns, and I have a feeling one brother was a priest back in Ireland.
What a shame about the census records.

Kind Regards
