Dillon Family/Kilmacreanan
« on: Monday 31 August 09 18:54 BST (UK) »
Good Afternoon,

I am looking for information about the Dillon family from Kilmacreanan, Donegal.

Thomas married Mary Rodgers.  I am looking for his siblings and parents.

I also understand that one relative, possibly Robert Dillon, was convicted and sentenced to life only to have that conviction overturned later.  Although I have searched the convict records, no dates seem to match a Robert Dillon coming home before Thomas was born in 1846.

Also there has been some discussion that the family given names switched from fist born to first born as Robert Thomas Robert Thomas.  If that were the case, the Thomas Dillon that married Mary Rodgers is not a first born.

Lots of questions and very few answers.

Please help!

Thanks,

Michelle

Welcome to Rootschat. If Thomas Dillon was born 1846 his marriage is probably after the start of civil registration (1864) and the marriage certificate should list his father's name and occupation.
See here to search index to civil registration-

See here to order the marriage certificate-

There's also a booklet on researching Donegal ancestors which might help you-

Thomas and Mary are on 1901 census for Kilmacrennan Town - you sould be able to obtain their marriage cert which will have fathers' names.

1911 census says married 38 years (14 children, 11 children living) which should help find marriage in civil index-

Marriage took place Sept. 7, 1875.  He was 32; she was 21.  His father, Robert, was deceased and her father is listed as Anton Rodgers.  Robert died Mar. 2, 1916.  His parents were Robert Dillon and Mary Shiels (unconfirmed).

Hi.  I noticed this was a very recent reply.  Do you know where Robert and his brother came from?
