John Way born about 1760, somewhere in England

Looking for a John Way- emigrated to Canada before 1800

Here is what I have for starters:
John Way born 1760 England from a gravestone here on Cape Breton Island, Canada
family folklore says he came with his father John Way and mother Elizabeth Oxford, also that he left from Durham as a soldier. I have found no trace of these two, except that the area they farmed is now called Oxford Point and he was living with an Edward Oxford, same age as himself , late in life so maybe brother in law.
On the IGI site I spotted a couple of interesting possibilities:
- John Way, b. Aug.20, 1760,chr. at All Hallows The Great, London, s/o John and Elizabeth Way
John Way, chr. Mar.23, 1760, West Itchenor, Sussex, s/o John and Sarah Way
John Way, chr. May 17, 1761, Saint Nicholas, Rochester, Kent, s/o John and Jane Way
John Way, chr. Aug.9, 1761, Hartland, Devon, s/o John and Jane Way
John Way, chr. Aug. 30, 1761, St. Bartholomew The Great, London, s/o John and Elizabeth
I did find several Way names in Loders, Dorset
one in particular a John Way, bapt. May 28, 1742, s/o Edward and Mary Way

These are all fairly close match. I visited on sites of these various counties and message boards but got no response
Just to eliminate some of these would be nice. Someone must have put them on site.
The first one I mentioned here everything seems right on-John Way s/o John and Elizabeth, b. 1760, I even managed to get a list of his siblings from microfilm and they are the same as some of his children here.
