Hi everyone  :D

Barbara sent the photo to me and I've resized it to fit it onto the board.  I have to say that even the larger version isn't much help, there is almost nothing left of the inscription unfortunately  :-\

If I get time tonight I'll have a play in Photoshop and see if anything springs to light.

Cheers
Prue

Hi Prue,

Thanks very much for putting up a resize, very kind.

Like I say, I think I need a miracle to see any more details but you never know !!

Cheers

Underneath "Who died            "

There is

"&                              LL"

Which one assumes to be "& Alice Howell" but too much has gone.

I have put it through Photoshop, butcannot get any more either "

Hi Emjaybee,

Thanks very much for your work in retrieving that bit more from the Gravestone for me, at least I feel now that I've got as much from it as I'm ever going to get.

It's very kind of you to have spent the time and is much appreciated.

Hi Corisande,

Thank you very much also for trying to help by putting the photo through Photoshop for me and I'm grateful for your help.

Cheers

Barbara.

Hi Barbara

If this gravestone is in Oswestry you may be able to get a transcription from the SFHS http://www.sfhs.org.uk/mi_surnames.asp
They seem to have an extensive collection.

Just a thought Barbara, if the stone is in a small town it may have been worked by a local firm. Is it worth checking out local masons and whether they keep records of inscriptions? It's a long shot but you never know!

Hi Tony,

Thanks for your message.

Yes, I did check with the Stone Masons of the Town who would have produced the Gravestone at the time, but they did not have any records that might have helped me.

Cheers

Though there were no records of the graves at the church, have you tried the local county archives? Some archives have extensive  burial records so it's well worth a try.
