Cannot find anything on Daniel Mills King
« on: Monday 07 September 09 16:04 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

My GG Grandmother Malvina Mills married William Wilson. Malvina Mills father's name was Daniel Mills King. As far as I know he was a Doctor of Physics/Physicans in Dublin and he had a brother Michael. I also know Daniel recieved a will in 1819 which I am trying to get and this came from Wicklow were he recieved a lot of land. On the Griffiths Valuation he is leasing this out. They both lived in Blackrock. Thats it....

A question I have is why is Malvina Mills called this and not King?
Can anyone find anything about Daniel or even a Birth/Baptism record for Malvina? She was born around 1832 and died 1882 and was Protestant. I cannot find any record of brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, parents.... absolutely nothing.

I would be grateful of any help as I have hit a brick wall on this one.

Thanks
Ann Marie

In the terminology of the times it was common to list the marriage in a newpaper as 'Malvina Mills daughter of Daniel Mills King'. Her name was Malvina Mills King - the confusion only arrises due to the second firstname which sounds like a surname.

The following entries may be relevant:

Irish Deaths 1882: Q1, Malvina Wilson, 43, Rathdown, Vol 2, Page 818.

Irish Birth Register 1877: Kathleen Malvina Wilson, Rathdown, Vol 2, Page 982.

You may have these already - but just in case.

best regards

Gerry

Thanks for this, I already have the below details but what is weird is on the marraige cert for Malvina and William,  Malvina gives her name as Malvina Mills. This is a legal document... does that matter?

All of her children's birthcert's state her name as Malvian Mills not King.

I am still struggling to find anything out about Daniel Mills King.

Hi

A few days ago, while researching in the churchyard of St. John the Baptist Church (Church of Ireland) in Drumcondra, Dublin suburb north of the city centre, I came across a headstone that might be of interest:

To the memory
of
DANIEL MILLS KING
of Kingston, Co, Wicklow
who died 8th May 1869
in the 72nd year of his age.
and of MARY, his Wife
who died 16th August 1847
aged 45 years.
and also of their Children MATILDA,
CHRISTINA, MARY, THOMAS and JAMES.

Photo of inscription attached, and location and of the lovely church itself - the headstone is at the East end of the church - the end opposite the one with the roof bell.

There is a townland of Kingston in Co. Wicklow (Civil Parish of Castlemacadam, Poor Law Union of Rathdrum).

I hope this helps

best regards

Gerry McMahon

Guys,

Thank you so much for finding the grave of Daniel, I would never have found that in Drumcondra and I am not sure why he was buried there when they lived on the southside, Blackrock usual...

But this is smashing, I haven't looked at this in months, with young children I cannot find the time to do this anymore.. Thanks so much I will have to pop out to Drumcondra.

Guys looking at that headstone does it mean that there five children, Matilda, Christina, Mary, Thomas and James died? or are they alive?

My aunt lives right across the road for the last 40 years from this graveyard and never knew her GG Grandfather is buried right beside her
