Looking forward to hearing about the marriage cert and keeping my fingers firmly crossed for you

Jane Ellen Wylie and William Gledhill are on a public tree on Ancestry, and it confirms Jane's year of birth as 1881!  On this tree there was a child Margaret (now deceased) born just after the 1911 census and it also gives the dates of death - William's death is listed as 6 Dec 1941 at 13 Argyle St, Shipley, aged 80.

I've got the marriage certificate from the GRO, and I'm afraid it doesn't prove anything one way or the other. The William on the certificate was age 42 on Nov 2nd 1907, whereas my William would have been 46. His occupation is given as "dyer" the same as my William, but his father is given as John, occupation manufacturer - my William's father was Jonathan, occupation spinner.

So I'm as confused as ever!

I can't think of any other ways of determining whether this is my man!

Could have altered his age a little, due to the age difference between him and Jane!

We are back to his signature again.  Do you have any idea which parish church in Halifax, your Great Grandparents married in 1885 - if not the vicars name and addresses if any?  My mum lives up in Yorkshire and if I sweet talk her, I am sure she will look up the parish record and then you can compare the signature with that on the 1911 census.  Oh and would need the date in 1885.

Hi Kath,

Thank you very much for your kind offer. My great Grandparents, William Gledhill and Amelia Foote were married in Halifax Parish Church on April 6th 1885. As a matter of interest, the vicar's name was R. Plumer Stedman.

I've tried to find another William Gledhill who might fit the bill in previous census returns, but have had no luck so far. I'll keep on trying when I need to while away the time.

Hi SandraAmy,

Have tried for ages today to attach the signature, and then stumbled onto another topic where someone else was having the same problem and basically found out you cannot attach images on request boards, aaargh!

Anyway have attached an image of William and Amelia's signature on the photo recognition board; hope it helps.
