John Devonald Eglwyswrw
« on: Tuesday 08 September 09 22:40 BST (UK) »
 Hallo

Have an ancestor called John Devonald who was born in 1817 in Eglwyswrw.

His father was called David.

By the time John was married (to Elizabeth Morris) he was living croes y forwyn working as a labourer. Then moved away to St Davids and then Aberdare.

I am now at a standstill. Cannot find a satisfactory David Devonald of the right age to be his father and I wondered if there are any parish records out there that someone may be willing to  look up?

Thankyou in anticipation

Welcome to Rootschat!  ;D

Sorry, I haven't got access to the parish records and the IGI is patchy in Pembs. I do have an index to marriages though, and a David Devonald, labourer, of Nevern married Martha Phillips otp 13/2/1816 in St Nicholas. Nevern isn't very far from Eglwyswrw, but rather further away from St Nicholas in Dewisland hundred.

Can't find the couple on the 1841 census, but they're of an age to have John and John does have a daughter called Martha.

His father was called David (Devonald)
Have you considered David Devonald who married Mary John at Eglwyswrw in 1803. There is no John Devonald baptised(anglican) at Eglwyswrw around the time of your interest.

Thankyou.

Sounds very possible. The family appear to have been non conformist later on so probably in those records somewhere.

Very kind of you.
