Hello all!  I know this topic has been open and "dormant" for quite some time.  At long last I can report on a marvelous find by a fellow Rootschatter who had a book of MIs not on line. Firstly, I did find that James Best married Herriot Paxton on 15 Nov1839 in Norham. Soon afterward, Anne Best was born in Norham. This family actually lived in Hawick, Roxburgh, Scotland where James was a carrier with a route from Hawick to Berwick-on-Tweed. After 1841, another child, Thomas Best, was born.  An MI at St. Mary Cemetery in Hawick reveals a sad story for this family: Herriot (Paxton) Best died 13 June 1842; her infant son, Thomas, died 9 Feb 1843 and his Father, James Best, died 22 Nov 1843. Thus, little Anne was left an orphan at age 4. Fortunately, her Father's siblings raised her.  Again, I would like to thank all those who helped me in this quest. And, I guess the moral of the story is to never give up on those brick walls.  ;D

Hello all, I know this has been a looong time coming, but through the help of an off-line data base,  the mystery of James and Ann has been solved.  Sadly, Harriet (nee:Paxton) Best died 13 June 1842 and is buried in Hawick, Roxburghshire, Scotland.  And, even more sadly, her husband, James Best died 22 Nov 1843, also in Hawick where he, too, is buried.  So, in the interest of accuracy, I will mark this query as complete.  Thank you all for your input!  Sincerely, patrexjax
