Martin Chapman born 1905 South Shields
« on: Saturday 05 March 05 00:32 GMT (UK) »
Anyone having any information regarding the abovenamed and his family, I would very much like to hear from you.  I have just commenced researching Martin Chapman, my father who married Fotini Lambakis in Alexandria Egypt in 1931.
I am keen to make a start on learning a lot more about my ancestry.  All replies would be most welcome

Do you know the names of his parents? This would help in working backwards. We can't look for  Martin in a census as he was born after 1901 and the 1911 census is not due for release until 2011.

Have you got his birth certificate or wedding certificate? The first will hopefully give both parents' names and the second will give at least his father's name.

I've just looked at the 1891 transcription for South Shields and there were over 200 Chapmans then!

If you haven't already done so, consider joining the Northumberland and Durham Family History Society. There are also Rootsweb mailing lists for Durham that could be useful.
