Link: Free Scottish census search

Hi,

We are often asked to locate houses or villages from the census on maps so we have created a solution! Free census transcription with Google map links. Simply search for either a person or an address – view the transcription and click the link to the map! Could not be simpler. Also recently updated are links to old maps.

In the towns and villages if the Google pointer points to a house, that was the house, if it’s in the road then it’s unfortunately just a general village location but most do point to the exact house.

We have basically only linked Peeblesshire to maps at the moment although our whole database is online. We do though hope to continue the project throughout the borders. Also note the links between census years and the added notes column from own research.

Here is an example: http://www.maxwellancestry.com/census/51transcript.aspx?houseid=77002016

If you look at Cathrine Horsburgh about half way down, the notes tell you she is to marry James Grosart and you can also link to James in the census. Anyway have a rummage around and see what you think.

If you have any ideas please let me know.

Emma
