Looking for Peter Paterson & family
« on: Tuesday 22 September 09 05:12 BST (UK) »
I would like to ask if anyone coud give me some information about Peter Paterson or his brother Robert Paterson. Their father had a tannery in Stirling that was a branch of his which was in the village of Tullibody, near Alloa, where Robert and Peter were born. Many thanks. :)

Hi Rose

You don't give any dates or time-frames in your request?

Since you do have some information already about Peter & Robert (their father etc and where they were born) perhaps you could list more specifically what you do have and what it is you are looking for, to save anyone going over 'old ground'. [Living persons should not be named or dated though - Rootschat policy]

This topic is duplicated in the Stirling board:

Where a reply had given some information about Peter.

Hi AMBLY

Thanks for the answers.  I am writing a biography of Reginald Maurice Rollo Paterson, he was a relative of mine, and artist who lived in France and Spain, he lived abroad for a long time and we had little references about the family in the UK. It is why I am trying to trace some references about his ancestors. His father was Patrick Murdoch Paterson (1863-1928) and was one of the sons of Robert Paterson one of the two brothers who had the Tannery “P & P Paterson” based at 25 Upper Craigs, Stirling, 1870-1871 and at 81, Craigs, 1881-82. I had tried to find some references about Robert Paterson but I had no luck so I thought I may be lucky if I try with the other brother Peter Paterson.

Regards

Rose :)

Hi Monica,

How interesting the information about the tannery, specially the History of Tullibody Tannery and its demolition, including the pictures about it! It all has been very helpful to me. Many thanks, Monica!

Rose :)

Dear Rose,
Apologies, I don't know how long ago you started this discussion thread has been going, but I wondered if you were aware of the small collection of Rollo Paterson's artworks at the University of Stirling?  I work with the University of Stirling Art Collection and we would be more than happy for you to come and see the works that are in storage.
All best wishes,
Rhona

I have come late into this search for the Patersons and maybe you have now got the answers; but
the Peter Paterson you have in Stirling was the son of Alex and Isobel Robertson in Tullibody.  Isobel was the sister of my great great grandmother Agnes Robertson.  Isobel was born in Stirling daughter of John Robertson and Margaret Gillespie, 18th December 1784 and married Alex Paterson in Alloa 9 February 1808.  John Robertson was a leather merchant, which ties in quite nicely with Alex being a tanner.  Can give you more details if you require.
