Beltony directories or anything also for Clonleigh?
« Reply #29 on: Friday 30 December 05 13:20 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Can anyone help me in trying to track down a couple of elusive ancestors of mine please?

The earliest info. I have is:

David Whitaker/Whittager (sic) who married Eliza Spence in August 1877.

His place of residence at the time was Sheercloon in the Parish of Clonleigh.

His father was William.

Both were labourers.

David was of full age.

He marrid in the Church of Raphoe.

Eliza was also of full age.

Her place of residence was Milltown in the Parish of Raphoe.

Her parents were Alexander and Mary Jane Spence.

I have them again in August 1884 having a son William Whitager in Beltony in Raphoe in Strabane.

David was Whittager.

They were residing in Beltony at the time.

Would there be any directories or anything at all that I probably don't know about that they all might be listed in before/after and during the years 1877 and 1884?

I haven't been able to find the births as I think they will be in Parish registers.  I do know Eliza remarried in 1900 to Patrick Coyle in Stranorlar as a widow.

Any help to find my elusive g.g and g.g.g. grandparents would be brilliant.

Many thanks and happy new year.

Sheercloon records for 1877?
« Reply #30 on: Monday 02 January 06 14:00 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I have found my David Whittaker/Whittager marrying in the Church of Raphoe in August 1877.

He states his place of residence at the time as in Sheercloon in the Parish of Clonleigh.

Would there be any records for around that date that may track him down?

I don't know where he was born, could he have come from Sheercloon, how can I find out?

Any suggestions, most welcome as I am trying all sorts of different avenues in order to track them down!

Records for Beltony 1884+-???
« Reply #31 on: Monday 02 January 06 14:08 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am looking for the families of Whittaker/Whittager and Spence who I know were in the Beltony area in August 1884 and beyond (maybe before too).

Their names were

David, Eliza/beth and William (b. 1884) Whitaker (sic).

I don't know where either of them were born or when and only have them in 1877 and 1884 until Eliza remarries in 1900.

Alexander and Mary Jane Spence and familiy.

I know some of the Spence's were still there in 1901 and 1911.

William's birth certificate says it was in Strabane in Raphoe.

Any help most welcome.  Thanks.

Why can't I find....
« Reply #32 on: Monday 06 February 06 19:18 GMT (UK) »
I have searched through the LDS records for the births of

David Whittaker b.c. 1840 and his siblings

Barbara b.c. 1866
William b.c. 1868
and
Sarah b.c. 1847

but to no avail.

I have Barbara and William in the 1901 and 1911 census' but cannot find their births under Whittaker/Whitager etc.,

What am I doing wrong?  If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to know please.

Many thanks

Where can they be in 1911? - still looking for...

Hi

I wonder if someone would  be able to find the Whittaker family in Donegal please? (or any other Whittaker's in the area!)

I am looking for William Whittaker and his wife Sarah who with their family were in Barras, Plumridge in 1901.

In 1912 in Leardin, Tyrone North in Plumbridge/Plumridge.

Some of the children were:
Robert b.c. 1886
Mary b.c. 1887
Sarah b.c. 1891
Margaret b.c. 1893
Lizzy b.c. 1894
Annie b.c. 1896
Matilda b.c. 1899 and
Samuel b.c. 1902

there could be more of them by 1911.

William was a shoemaker in 1902 and Sarah died in 1914 in Leardin but I have no ages for them.

They were married in Strabane in 1885.

Any help would be great.

Many thanks

How did they get to Scotland?
« Reply #34 on: Monday 26 June 06 16:52 BST (UK) »
My family came from County Donegal and my g.grandfather was born in Beltony in the Registration district of Strabane, Raphoe in 1884.

The next time I find him is in 1901 aged 19 in Port Glasgow and hopefully the man I think was his father died in Ayr under Muirkirk Parish in 1901.

Would anyone know how they would have got to Scotland from Ireland please?

I have no idea when except it would have between 1884 and 1901!

His name was William Whittaker and he doesn't appear to be in Scotland in 1891, at least no-one has been able to find him, so he could still have been in Ireland then when he would have been about 7 years of age.  His father was David.

Many thanks

Hello,
Although I have nothing certain, and at the moment do not know where to find if , I think they would have sailed from Derry/Londonderry. It is only about 14 miles from Strabane. and was a fairly busy port at that time. Hope this gives an idea.
