Hi

Could someone please tell me is Horan and Haren the same surname as my grandmother Catherine (Katie) Horan father was John his father was Thomas Horan they came from County Clare to Australia dont know what town in Clare they were from,or what year they came here. John married Judith (known as Johanna and Annie) Mullaly from Tipperary and settled in Mt Gambier South Australia where they had my grandmother and several children a lot of them died very young. I dont know anything about my Grandmother's parents other than in Australia. Would love to find out anything on the Irish side about them, where they came from or if Thomas had any brothers and sister's and who is wife was. Also if my ggrandfather John had any brothers and sisters.

Kind regards
Barbara

Hi Cathy,

Thankyou for your reply, I am so glad to hear that I now can lookup different spelling of the name as I have been hitting brick walls for years with John and his father Thomas Horan, what I do know are all the childrens dates for John and Johanna Mullaley, Bridget married a John Kain in Mt Gambier, Catherine my grandmother married Gustav Edmund Schleter also in Mt Gambier,Margaret I am unsure whether she married a John Byass or just had a child to him,Edward Lawrence married Agnes Pudney, they all appear to have married in Mt Gambier South Australia, on the Mullaley side Johanna's sister Margaret married Stephen Ryans, Mary married Edmund English, also another sister married a John Egan, her surname is different which means her mother Bridget could have married a Kavanagh before marrying William Mullaley.

Getting back to Horans, Thomas may have married a Ann Doolan but I havent been able to confirm this as yet. Hope you can make sense of all this

Kind regards
Barbara
