Hi Cathy

Thankyou for all that information, I had most of my lot, off the SA diggers discs, I have now changed to windows 7, and cant get my discs to work, which is really annoying, it looks like it is a different family to mine that you come from, I did wonder whether Bridget was Johns sister. I have all info for both families in South Australia, but nothing before then on the Horan side, I have the shipping record for the Mullaley's they arrived in Victoria, because of all the John and Thomas Horans,I am not getting anywhere with where they came from before South Australia. I have just joined the clare group on facebook. so hope I have some luck there. I was born in South Australia, but I have lived in Perth WA since I was 18, but I still go back home when I can. I will try again the shipping in Victoria, but it is hard when you have no idea of date they arrived,Goodluck with your tree, I thought I had finally found someone related, will keep trying.

Kind regards
Barbara

HI i have just joined roots chat and saw your references to Horan. I have my G Grandfather Robert Horan (b about 1858) and his sister Mary(b about 1863) with a father Michael who was already dead in 1881. Not sure where in Ireland they came from can't get back any further than Michael. Robert & Mary are on the 1881census in UK. Robert married a Catherine Finn  (b 18.04.1862 in Thurles Tipperary) they married in 1881 in Preston Lancashire UK. I have traced Catherines family to Ireland but cant get any further back with Robert other than his fathers name on the marriage certificate stating he is deceased. Any help or advice

Hello all,

I found these posts whilst looking for details of my mother's side of the family. I hope this thread is still active.

My mother, Bernadette, was born in 1925 to John Joseph Harhen [1895-1967] and his wife Margaret (nee Doohan) [1892-1986] They lived in Cloonbooly at the time when I visited as a child in the 60's.
My mothers siblings were Christie (Christopher), Frank, Mary, Teresa and Catherine Christine.

I'm told that John Joseph's siblings were John, Ellie, Delia, James, Margaret, Martin, Mary, Michael, Norah, Thomas and two named Kate. The first Kate died as a child and a later daughter was given the same name.

I think that some of the sons emigrated to Australia and some (maybe the same ones) emigrated to New Zealand.

From the 1911 census there is a house 6 in Slievealoughaun (Kinturk, Clare) which shows the residents as:
Harhen  John  age 70  male  Head of family  R. Catholic
Harhen  Norah  age 33  female  Daughter  R. Catholic
Harhen  Michael  age 24  male  Son  R. Catholic
Harhen  John  age 16  male  Son  R. Catholic
Harhen  Catherine  age 14  female  Daughter  R. Catholic
Harhen  James  age  male  Son  R. Catholic

This matches up so well that I think it might be the right family. Does this match up with anyone else's information? It would be so helpful to have some independent confirmation.
