Please help decipher maiden name of mother

Please could someone help decipher the maiden name of the mother on this birth certificate.   It reads "Elizabeth Tomlinson, formerly Ba.........."

I read it as Batman but agree that it is Bateman!

I can't see it too well, it's too small, but it looks to me as if there is another letter in there, so it might be Batesman  or Gatesman

Perhaps we could link a marriage of a Tomlinson (assuming the marriage occurred after 1837).

Hello everyone and thank you for your kind offers of assistance.

Firstly, I must apologise for posting the whole of the certificate. Thank you to the moderators for pointing out the policy and for removing it.

The certificate shows my 2 x great grandmother's birth.
Her name was Matilda Tomlinson and she was born at 3 Friars Green, Warrington, Lancashire (now Cheshire). 

Matilda was born on 30 April 1839 and died in 1911.  She married William McCarthy (1840) in 1859 and I have found them on all the censuses from 1861 to 1901.

I had hoped Matilda's birth certificate would give me a lead on her mother Elizabeth's family.  I agree that 'Bateman' or 'Batesman' look likely last names for Elizabeth.  However, I have not been able find corresponding births or marriages in the Warrington area.

Elizabeth married James Tomlinson (1806-1882) but their big day must have been well before 1837 unfortunately.  They had their first child Mary in 1827 so I would guess they married a year or two before that.  Elizabeth, James and their first six children can be see in the 1841 census at: 521  7  7.

It would give me a great boost if there is anything out there on Elizabeth's Bateman/Batesman clan.
