Peoples family of Letterkenny
« on: Tuesday 06 October 09 20:58 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find out more about Patrick Peoples of Letterkenny who married Frances(Fanny) Doran, also of Letterkenny, on the 31st July 1881 in St Eunan's cathedral.

Frances was my great-great grandfathers sister. I haven't been able to track any children or their deaths. I'm not sure what to do really ???

Frances' parents where Daniel Doran and Margaret McGowan
Patrick's parents where James Peoples and Hannah Patton

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Have you found Patrick in 1911 census yet? One possibility here (oldest child 28 so born shortly after marriage date of 1881):

Patrick would have been born around 1858, his mother Hannah is only 74 on the census so the man you mentioned is too old ???

Frances was born May 1857 if that helps...

They just don't seem to be on the census.

If Patrick was living in Ireland in 1911 he should be in the census but there are loads of transcription mistakes. You hadn't mentioned his age before but try searching for Patrick (no surname) in the same DED with the correct age and then go through the results to see if you can find him - unless perchance he died before 1911?
IGI (see www.familysearch.org for exact dates) lists five children for James Peoples and Hannah Patton: Catherine 1865, James, 188, Hannah 1870, Grace 1872, Eliza 1874. Unfortunately, civil registration of births started in 1864 so earlier children will not have birth certificates.

It looks as if FrancIs Doran/Peoples (female) died in Scotland 1929, aged 71, in Lanarkshire.  The death should be available to download on http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/
Perhaps a child registered her death. In any case, the death cert should tell you whether Patrick was alive or dead at the time.

I too have Peoples/Pattons in Donegal, but as yet do not see a connection.

Thank you so much tootsiepie! Ive viewed the death certificate and it's definately Frances  :D

I checked the 1901 Census for Scotland...and after a bit of digging I found them at Kinning Street Glasgow.

Patrick Peoples aged 40
Fanny aged 40
Hannah aged 18
Margaret aged 16
James aged 14
Daniel aged 9
John  aged 6
Charles aged 4
Edward aged 1

There was also a son called Patrick because he registered his mother's death.

They were all born in Ireland, except Edward.

Now all I have to do is find them in Scotland  ???

Smashing  ;D

Now, there is an Edward Peoples , mothers maiden named DORAN, died in Lanarkshire in 1978, birth year 1900.    Methinks it could well be yours  :D.
But you won't be able to acess the cert online, as its after the cut-off date. I don't see any other deaths before 1958 with mothers maiden name of Doran.

You should be able to get some of the marriages of the children in the census, just by searching the indexes by individual names e.g. ''Edward''.  I would download them all in the right time frames and see from there , which would be the most likely.

If ever stuck, remember the alternative name of Peobles.

Extend yoursearch for Peoples from Ramelton, Donegal to Clydebank, Dunbartonshire. There were a few families of Peoples in Clydebank and still are and they originate Ramelton, Letterkenny area.

This may be very late, but I've just seen the post.
Patrick Peoples was my grandfather's brother. My grandfather was James Peoples born 1868.
Patrick  and Fanny had 2 daughters (Hannah and Margaret) and 6 sons (James, Daniel, William, Charles, Edward and Hugh).
The family moved to Kinning Street, Glasgow, Scotland between 1899 and 1903.
The family all died there except for Margaret and her husband Patrick James McElhinney, who emigrated to Australia, and William who emigrated to Florida, USA.
I hope this helps,
Jack Peoples, Dublin, Ireland
