Help with name please closed thanks very much
« on: Thursday 15 October 09 12:48 BST (UK) »
Hello All

Can anyone make out the top name = witness on marriage?

I thought it might me Grova or Greta even, but I can't link the first name with the surname, nor with the name underneath = groom, which I was hoping for a connection.

Have included some other piece of wedding cert to get an idea of the writing.

Many Thanks

Could Greta have a connection to the bride and not the Groom???

There seem to be quite a few Greta lumb BMD's

Could she have been married to Wilkin

this is a long shot -
but there is a birth reg freeBMD
Mary greta Lumb Sept qtr 1904
Sunderland
10a 721

and a marriage
Sept qtr 1927
Mary G Lumb
Noel Wilkin
Barnet
3a 1234

maybe she used her middle name???

there is also a death reg
mary greta Wilkin
age 87
Oct 1881
hendon

Maybe??????????????????????

Thanks for replies

I don't think the name has to do with the bride as her daughter is the other witness (I think) - and going from the often seen one witness from the groom and one from the bride was looking at that route.

There isn't a birth for Arnold Alwin and I think he might have come over from America (according to ref in Ancestry but I haven't got the expensive membership.

I saw the Lumb connection thanks.

The marriage was in  1985 so it rules out the death reg.  (Sorry, thanks for looking)

I assumed "Your" Arnold was the Arnold Alwin Buchmann who married in 1948

and died 1996

such an uncommon name -and there are 2 of them!!!!

I believe so Suz, the certificate only came today.

Am trying to be a bit subtle as since it was only 1985 there could be living descendants on his side which I wouldn't want to offend.

Oh I have it thanks, I think

His 1948 marriage was to Dorothy Lumb.

Greta Lumb married Noel Wilkin.

Assuming Dorothy Lumb and Greta Lumb were sisters, the one on the certificate is his sister in law.

Marvelous, great.

Will investigate more.

Thanks all, that was quick.

you are quite correct in what you are doing - as we do not post details of the living (or maybe)

As I said it was only a possibility  but worth checking
