Owen McGinley - Mullaghduff -COMPLETED
« on: Saturday 17 October 09 00:58 BST (UK) »
Hi Folks,
Searching for my GGGF Owen McGinley from Mullaghduff and my GGGM Grace Sweenie.

Their son, my GGF John McGinley (born 1881 Mullaghduff) moved to Helensburgh, Dunbartonshire, Scotland and married Mary Sharkey 29-12-1905.

John was living in Springburn in the 1901 census, so I'm unaware when he arrived in Scotland.

John may have been in the army during 1917, as I have my Grannies baptisimal certificate, with Infantry Record Office, Island Bridge, Dublin 1917.
I am paying for a professional at the moment to trace his army record.

Anyway, I've wondered from my original question - my GGGF Owen McGinley from Mullaghduff and my GGGM Grace Sweenie, any help would really be appreciated

Best Regards
John  :)

IGI (www.familysearch.org) lists another son of Owen McGinley and Grace Sweeney-
James born 6 Oct.1874 Ireland

If Owen and Grace were married after 1864 there will be a civil marriage certificate (search for bride and groom separately then cross-reference results for match) which will list their fathers' names and occupations as well as where the bride and groom lived at the time of the marriage. Index to civil registrations is online (free) and with the details you can order the certificate.
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=collectionDetails;t=searchable;c=1408347  NOTE: 1911 census says married 42 years (so look for marriage c1869)

1911 census for Ireland is also free online-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search
Owen and Grace are listed under Mullaghdoo Scotch townland (and other McGinleys seem to be there also)
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Donegal/Annagary/Mullaghdoo_Scotch/488896/
Grace's line says married 42 years, 10 children (8 living) and 2 children are listed in the household as well as a grandchild.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

My sincere thanks to derrylass and aghadowey for guiding me in the right direction today. I have now found my GGGparents on the 1911 census and also the town where they were married.
The research can now continue

Hi John
I sent off to three McGinley descendants the Mullaghduff queries.  However Scots are prone to not answering questions.
But soon there will be a book about Neily McGinley son of John McGinley.
John

Hi
John McGinley was my grandfather and father to Neil and his5 sisters. My sister Kate has done lot of research which she has copied to family members so I can probably help with any questions you have
Good luck
