Cottage Hospital and Underwood Cottage Dunoon
« on: Wednesday 21 October 09 12:17 BST (UK) »
Hi there - have found relatives who were at the Cottage Hospital in 1901 as a patient and then previously therir family were  staying at Underwood Cottage  in 1851 (on holiday?) - both in Dunoon.
Am interested in whether these establishments were privately owned  or
were public buildings.  Any info much appreciated.

Manager Castle House Museum Dunoon. Cottage hospital in Dunoon in 1901 was very small and situated in King Street. Underwood was in Alfred Street which is very close by.

The hospital was opened in 1885 by Mr MacKinnon of Balnakill accompanied by H.M. Stanley the famous explorer.

In the early 1930's, my father, Kenneth Martin, now dead, worked at Auchnamore Farm, Dunoon which was owned by Alexander Lamont.     He writes: The plough-man was a middle-aged man called Neil Turner.    He lived at home about a mile away from the farm, right at the end of Alexander Street, the street which ran from the farm-gate right along past the bothy almost to the Dunoon Cottage Hospital."

I would be interested to know more about Dunoon Cottage Hospital myself.      Would like its exact address.
