Hi
Doe's your husband have an older brother called tom who lived in dublin? I just have a tom curran who is in my family, now deceased, he married my aunt, also a curran, but not related to one another.
Yes, I was in castledermot, but i was looking for Doyles, as my great uncle on my grandmother doyles side is buried there, i did see curran graves, but disregarded them, as i could not see an immediate connection, small world isn't it?
I have now found more currans, there is now a grave in dunleckney that is from boherduff too, and is a curran/hennessy one, also in the next village to boherduff, kilendraine there is a grave for an elizabeth lyons nee curran buried in dunleckney who is down as being from here, and she was born in 1701!
this would be great news if you are related to tom curran from county kildare, though i was told he was from naas, but could he be orig from castledermot, it would be a blessing.
all the best(with fingers crossed)
pete

yer can uncross yer fingers now! lol.

No Thomas's in our Currans(not that we know of anyway!)

Unless the Thomas(no.9) and the John Curran(no.13)Boherduff in 1901 census are related to our Michael Curran, who lived at no.11.

Our Michael was 50 at the time...Thomas was 80 and John was 64....doesn't look likely they be brothers,or the mother would be a great age when Michael was born......maybe Thomas & John were brothers and Michael could be the son of Thomas,or the nephew of both.

I was told that my uncle tom was from Naas, Co Kildare, Though in the census, there are no Curran families in Naas, just individuals, saying that maybe they came from away, and then married and settled, tom himself was born around 1921, so his father would possibly be born around 1880-1895 ish. He could be a 1st or 2nd cousin of your leo?
just a small pointer for you, in dunleckney cemetery, there is a michael haughney who was born 1714, i am feeling that this was the graveyard people from boherduff used before newtown cemetery opened.

will look into that..thankyou.

Michael is a common name on both sides of my husbands' family!

His g/father Curran and his g/father Aughney were both Michael....also his eldest brother(b.1922)is also Michael!

By coincidence,Micks son retired recently from a career as a policeman.

Hi again

@seanmac, Thanks for that, i was aware of this man as being in  the DMP, though don't know his relation to me, i know this because my grandfather martin curran was a DMP officer too, but later, he was born in 1862 and joined 1880. maybe it was my grandfathers uncle or great uncle, time will tell. If i recall the michael curran you refer to has a very low service number? or there is another curran down there somewhere too?

@elaine curran, Thanks for the reply, I still have more pics for you, just haven't sent them yet!

to both, thanks for your replies.
all the best

the service number for that Michael Curran is 2733, which would mean he joined up in early 1843.
