Hi Tina,

This William and Esther Richards are my ancestors, and I have quite a bit of information on them and their descendents.   Their son Cyrus, who was on the Java is also my ancestor.   Information on the Java, plus William's diary can be downloaded on internet from the South Australian archives. Most of their descendents are still in S.A.
I'm not sure what information you are seeking.  Can I help?

Hi, My line comes from William Frederick Richards his son. And then his son Frederick Francis Watts Richards. I have obtained a copy of the diary. But am after any history on these two people and their wife's and family anything would be very helpful, and if any one has  family photos of them and their wife's that they would be willing to share. My G Grandmother who was married to Arthur Richards only gave me real basic information. :)

My records say William Frederick was born 18/01/1824 and died 24/09/1893 in Gawler.  His wife was Sarah Jane.  He is buried with his wife and daughter Elsie Olive Richards n a clearly marked grave at Willaston, Gawler.
Wllm joined the police force on 1/1/1852 and left 31 May 1856.  There is a painted portrait of him accessible through the SA Mortlock website.
In 1884 he paid land tax for a property in High Street Gawler.  He was a baker at the time znd his postal address was Murray Street.  High and Murray streets are parallel, so perhaps the property went from one street to another.
Somewhere I have noted that he was a tallented musician [violin??] and played in the first performance of the Messiah in Adelaide.
I have a lot of stuff in a box, so may have more information on him and his son that I haven't yet put on my computer records.  I don't have any photos of his generation unfortunately.
I have more in formation on his parents and their siblings.  His mother Esther Watts and her siblings were baptised in How St Plymouth.  I have the names and dates for them.  I believe the Watts were a naval family.

Yes, I read that he organised a concert of the Messiah to raise funds for a shipwreck The Amadella, I think and he played the violin in it.
Any information on Esther Watts and her Family would be appreciated.
I got the picture of William Richards and turned it into a photo. I think I have a family photo of The Richards c 1930-40 of all the men in their railways uniform. ( My Grandma always called it The Brothers,, so I assume they are)

Good to see you've made contact.  The How Street records are in IGI batch C099091 and they're births, not baptisms as Baptists don't practise infant baptism, so you're lucky to get exact dates of birth.

Tina,
How Street Plymouth was heavily bombed in WW2, and has been almost entirely rebuilt.  A plaque in the street also says it was previously a slum.
Parents - William Watts and Elizabeth Kerswell
Chn
Isaac 31/07/1797
Esther[Hester] 01/02/1800
Eliza 17/07/1801
Louisa 01/08/180
Cyrus 25/04/1805
Maria 12/12/1807
Edward Kerswell 22/07/1810
Edward was married to Eliza Snelgrove.  They moved to either USA or Canada.
I would love to see a copy of the Richards brothers.  Is that possible?
After the Christmas madness I will have more time to dig up information.
