McQuigg help needed
« on: Friday 30 October 09 09:30 GMT (UK) »
Until last night I had a nice tidy section of family tree-

George Hunter McQUIGG, born 20 Aug.1878 Aghadowey, m.(20 May 1915 Moneydig Presbyterian Church) Maggie Elgin. Four children (won't list them all here since dates are fairly recent) including youngest daughter- Annie Hunter McQuigg born 13 Oct.1922 died 25 Mar.1936 Hopefield Hospital, Portrush.

Annie Hunter McQUIGG was involved in a car accident in September 1935 and there were several reports of the accident and court case in local papers. One of the articles (dated 15 Feb.1936) says that her mother has since died and refers to her as "deceased mother, Margaret M’Ilreavy, of Donesky House, Millbank, Portstewart."

George Hunter McQUIGG died between 1922-1936 (unfortunately too late for civil registration index) and widow Margaret/Maggie remarried 1922-1936 to a Mr. McIlreavy.

Margaret's 2nd marriage would narrow down date for George McQuigg- McIlreavy might have different spelling than newspaper report- so can anyone find it for me?

Note: there is a family tree online for George H. McQuigg which I've already seen but no helpful details and lots of errors in it.

Aghadowey,

I've booked to visit GRO on 18 Dec and would be more than happy to do a look up for George H McQuigg.

Many thanks for your kind offer. Am going to see if he's buried in one of the cemeteries that the Council have records for to try to narrow down date of death and will let you know if I still haven't found a date in the next week or so.

Many, many thanks for your offer but will leave it for now and do a bit more research locally after the holidays.

Aghadowey,
I realise that your post was some time ago and you have probably got the necessary details by now!  However, failing that I have a note of:- George Hunter McQuigg and Maggie Elgin's children were baptised in Crossgar Presbyterian Church, a son John on 09 September 1917 and daughter Kathleen on 14 March 1920 - I can provide dates of birth if you need them.

Many thanks for your post. I actually have the records for Crossgar Presbyterian Church which include baptism details for all 4 of the McQuigg children but your message has reminded me about checking a few other resources that weren't online a few years ago.
