A Death in Holyhead in 1930
« on: Wednesday 04 November 09 18:33 GMT (UK) »
Hi,  I would like to find the district in Holyhead  where Ellen Lydon died in 1930, which, in turn would help to
trace where she might be buried, is a death cert. the route to take ?.
Her husband had been a coastguard officer there, and I believe died there, before her.
Any advice/help would be much appreciated
                                          Thanks

Hello
Its always a good idea to get the death certificate it will give you where she died if she died in ot  but it will give who registered the death

death info Ellen Lydon 3rd qtr, 1930 vol 1ba page 526 district holyhead aged 57yrs
Joseph Lydon 2nd qtr, vol 11b page 631 district holyhead aged 57yrs
They both died young how sad.

I looked up your family 1911 census
RG14 PN10252
16 Coastgaurd Buildings Harwich Essex

Lydon
Joseph 42yrs  chief officer coastgaurd b. Salby County Galaway
Ellen wife 38y b Wick scotland
Mary daugh 17y bWeymouth Dorset
Alexandri Ona14y b Leith Scotland
Ellen 12y b as above
Norah 9y b Granton Edinburgh
Christina M 5y bottle Liverpool
William son 4y b Holyhead Angalsey
Isabella 3y as above

They must have gone back to Anglesey later looking at this I would have to get their death certificate to see where they where living .
Did any of the family stay in north wales?

Thanks cardiff,
I only know of what became of 2 of the boys, William and Ronald(born 1912) Joseph was in the Navy, but I
haven't managed to find his death, and know nothing about the daughters, so thought that it may be one way
of finding a daughters married name, if she had registered Ellen's death, so I think that a death cert. is the way
to go next, thank you for the address of Reg. Office.
                                   Thanks

HI
I think that would be a good idea.
It looks like all the family moved from North Wales  when you enter the surname for BMD only Joseph and Ellen comes up. I forgot to put in the year Joseph died its 1926.
let us know how you got on
good luck
cheers cardiff ;)

The main cemetery in Holyhead is Maeshyfryd, the graves are mainly in year order, the staff there are very helpful, the Town Hall will give you a grave reference but I think there is a charge for this info

The coastguard houses are still there in Newry Beach not far from the ferry terminal to Ireland.

Death cert best idea will give you more info.

If I can help in any way just let me know, although I live in Kent I have family still there, where part of my family tree originated.
