William Monks in 1851
« on: Thursday 10 March 05 07:47 GMT (UK) »
William Monks was born about 1850, ages vary in different censuses, In Eagle, Lincolnshire. Not here in 1851 and by 1871 he was In Cambridge with his mum Sarah Reeves and brother Alfred Reeves. Can someone see please if he has moved to Cambridge as early as 1851, pretty stuck on this one. Many thanks, Nicky

No William Monks of the right age in the index on Cambs FHS web site

http://www.cfhs.org.uk/Search.html

There's a birth on FreeBMD of a William Monks in the Sept quarter 1848 in Lincoln registration district, which includes Eagle. Might this be him?

There's also a burial in the NBI of a William Monks age 23 on 10 July 1848 at Eagle (the only burial of a Monks at Eagle in the period 1825-1860). I'm assuming his mother remarried some time after he was born given his younger brother's different surname and age.

I see he was in Wisbech in 1871 amd 1881, rather than Cambridge.  I'm checking 1861 to see if I can find them.

Regards

David

Hi David.
Thanks for all the info. The birth could be him, I will need to get his cert. The burial could be of his dad, but unsure of dads name. I meant to say Cambridgeshire rather than Cambridge, yes that is him In Wisbech. By 1891 he was living in London. Finding him on the 1861 would be a great help but not sure where he was. Any info would be appreciated.

Update:

Can't see them in Wisbech in 1861, which is a bit frustrating as they should be there - at least, they were there in 1857 when Alfred was born, and again in 1871.

I'm still working on it, but Wisbech is a big(gish) place - there are nearly 700 census pages.

Don't go away!
