Masterson Family, Monart civil parish area, Wexford?
« on: Sunday 08 November 09 16:58 GMT (UK) »
I am searching for any information on the Masterson family from this area.  Michael and John, 2 brothers, came to Canada about 1855.
Anything you might know would be much appreciated.
Thank you,
Cein

Hi Cein,

I know your post was a good while ago but I said I would just leave a quick message to see if you are still checking. As far as I am aware, there are still Masterson in Monart today.

Thank you for responding PatriciaEarle.  It is never too late when family history is concerned!
Yes, there is at least one Masterson (through marriage) that is related to us still in the area.  However she is quite old and doesn't remember much about family history.  We know at least two family members emigrated to Canada about 1855 but we have no idea who their parents or siblings were.  I am hoping that there might still be someone over there that has some information.

Hi Cein,

I tell you what, my parents live literally across the field from Mrs Masterson so I will ask them what, if anything, they know. Our nextdoor neighbours also have a connection (although not directly related to) with the Mastersons so I'll see if I can find out anything of use to you.

Hi PatriciaEarle,
That is very kind of you.  It would be wonderful if you could find out something, however small.

A couple of my cousins looked up Mrs. Masterson when they were in Ireland 3 or 4 years ago.  They had a nice visit but she didn't have much information on family history.  She may have been a bit wary of these strangers to her so perhaps you will have more luck.

Thank you for your interest and time,
Cein

Hi Cein,

Well I asked my father and this is what we came up with. The current Mastersons' living in Monart weren't originally from Monart, they built that house where the current Mrs Masterson' lives but in relatively recent times. Incidentally, the house was built on a site they got (or bought) from the Shields family.

Not far from Monart, only a few kilometres away, is Tomanoole and we think this is where your Mastersons originated from so here are a couple of links from 1901 and 1911 census:

I hope this helps a bit.

Hi Patricia,
Yes, I believe Tomanoole is where my relatives came from.  There is an older lady there who is related.  The Fern's connection looks interesting and I know there is a lot of historical significance to Fern's for the Masterson families in that area.

Thank you again for your help,
Cein
