Any ideas?
« on: Friday 13 November 09 20:31 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone hazard a guess as to the second witness's name?

The first is clearly John Langton. The second looks like Mary Mades. I haven't however been able to track down Ms Mades (the cert is May 1841 so I'd have expected to find her in the census) and wondered what other ideas folk might have.

Bradbury (Sedgeley, Bilston, Warrington)
Cooper (Sedgeley, Bilston)
Kilner/Kilmer (Leic, Notts)
Greenfield (Liverpool)
Holyland (Anywhere and everywhere, also Holiland Holliland Hollyland)
Pryce/Price (Welshpool, Liverpool)
Rawson (Leicester)
Upton (Desford, Leics)
Partrick (Vera and George, Leicester)
Marshall (Westmorland, Cheshire/Leicester)

The census was 6/7 June 1841 so she should be Mrs LANGTON. :)

The first letter of Mary is unlike the first letter of the surname.

If it was Q3 1841, here's a possible marriage
Marriages Sep 1841
Cunington    John        Leicester    15   108
HODGKINS    Mary Foster         Leicester    15   108
KENNEDY    John         Leicester    15   108
LANGTON    John        Leicester    15   108
PEBERDY    William         Leicester    15   108
PEET    Sophia         Leicester    15   108
WADE    Mary         Leicester    15   108
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Sorry, perhaps I didn't make it clear - these are the witness names. The marraige took place in Leicester, and neither of the marrying couple was a Langton.

but yes, nonetheless it could well be Wade - an engaged couple (John and Mary) acting as witnesses for friends - thankyou!

It could well be Wade - there are several Marys in Leicester in 1841.

Could the first name of the witness be Nancy, not Mary?
