Hi

Unfortunately I didn't get very far with this.  Whilst I did find some general information about Piano makers (by googling) I didn't manage to find any particular to my relative.  Much of the information I have since found out about him has him recorded as a Carpenter and it was only later info in which he was recorded as a pianoforte maker.  Sadly, I think it was likely that he died shortly after becoming a piano maker and didn't really establish himself.

Good luck with your search

FAO: Redroger - I'm jumping in at the deep end here since I've just joined after searching for Joseph Stanton, pianoforte maker in London, and I hit this site and saw your postings. According to my basic research (I'm just adding everything I know to Myheritage), Joseph Stanton (pianoforte maker) had a daughter, Mary Ann who married Edwin George Self, my great grandfather (a clerk in a London meat market). My brother's name is Stanton Self and I'm John. Joseph was my great, great grandfather. Does any of this strike a chord?

Off the top of my head, As I have most of my information on another computer at present, Yes, I would say we are definitely but distantly related. Make 3 more postings then we can talk by personal message. There is another (at least ) researcher on this site who is looking for Stantons.
Be in touch once I get my new computer fully set up, old one burned the chip and I am using a netbook at present.

Nice to know. I guess if you go back far enough the more likely we are to share family links. I look forward to more contact once your chips are done.

Will look and get back to you. By the way do you have any FH software on your computer so I can send you a tree to look at?

No, Family History software, There are very many varieties, choose one you like best, try a free version first then if you get on with it you can upgrade.
