Magill of Armagh - Help Required

I'm trying to find out information relating to my great-grandfather, John Magill, born 24/09/1875. The only detail I have is a reference from his employer, the Rev Robert J Patterson, of The Mall Presbyterian Church, Armagh, listing both John and his father James who both worked at The Manse. James is quoted as coming from Tower Hill, Armagh.

I know John married Elizabeth Scott, dob 06/06/1879, and they moved to England in the early 1900's. Would somebody be so kind as to look for their entries in the 1901 census at either the Tower Hill or Manse addresses, or to corroborate these details in any other way?

Hi Rob,

Two James Magills are shown as living in Armagh City in the Griffiths Valuations of 1864.
One is shown as living at Banbrook H, the other in an area of the City known as Corporation.
I have made a note to check the 1901 census to see if he is shown at the addresses you mentioned.

Audrey, I'm not sure whether John had any siblings or not. There was definitely a relative, Anita Magill, who left a sizeable estate when she died sometime in the 1980's. One of the few things I do know is that John and Elizabeth had a son, James Scott Magill, who was born in Ireland (Armagh?) on 4th June 1904, before they came over to England. I'd love to know how to get a copy of his birth certificate.

Another of their children was William Brownlee Magill. The name Brownlee is unique in my family. My best guess is that it was John's mother's maiden name. (A long shot I know!!!)
