CONNOR / GARVEY marriage / birth records
« on: Wednesday 18 November 09 14:00 GMT (UK) »
Sorry to sound stupid but just need advice from others who have tried it already!

igi:
Andrew CONNOR
Birth:  09th Jan 1865 (0930)
Dundalk, Louth, Ireland
Father:  John CONNOR
Mother:  Ellen GARVEY

How can I get a copy of this birth certificate?

I live in England and don't have a credit card.

It seems a complex way of ordering a certificate, especially as i just want the details of the mother.

On later marriage certificates (in England) her father is named as John GARVEY, deceased, blacksmith.

Will I gain anything from ordering the certificate apart from the actual address of birth?

Will it help in locating their marriage details / certificate in any way?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

these are the full details from the familysearch Civil Index :

 Name: Andrew Connor
 Registration district: Dundalk
 Record type: Birth
 year: 1865
 Volume: 2 / Page: 930

You can order a cert from the GRO using these details

see : http://www.groireland.ie/apply_for_a_cert.htm

Some people have had success with ordering a cert using cash - i.e. enclosing a €5 note... might be worth a try if you dont have a credit card.

Irish Birth certs include the following details :

 date & place of birth
 name of child
full name, address & occupation of father
 mother's maiden name
informant, qualification & address (usually midwife or parent)

if John and Ellen married sometime from 1864 (when full registration commenced) then they should be included in the familysearch Irish Index : http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=2;t=searchable;c=1408347

Between 1845 and 1863 non-Catholic marriages were registered and are included in the same index.

Hi Shane thanks for posting.

Tried the search engine but not getting anything - did think it would be a Catholic marriage as Ellen's 2nd / 3rd marriage took place in Catholic Chapel / Church in Lancashire, England.

Thanks for the birth ref - now understand what the (0930) is all about - I thought it might have been a time of birth  :-[

Are you suggesting I bribe them  ;D

It's not as easy as it looks on that BBC programme WDYTYA!!!

best wishes,
Ian.

If they were Catholic and married any time before 1864 then they will not be be included in the civil index, and you would need to search for parish records.

Do you know any more details on John & Ellen - where they they were born, or where they may have married ?

there's a very promising match for the marriage on the Irish Family History Foundation pay-website (www.irish-roots.ie) ... they charge €5 to view each record, so you would need a credit card...

details are :

Church Marriage, 1864, RC parish of Dundalk, Co. Louth

  Ellen Garvey & John O'Connor

as this is during 1864 I am not sure why it does not appear in the Civil index.

Hi Shane

Thanks again!

Ellen Garvey is Mrs Ellen Powell in 1911 (head - widow) age as 64 and birth place of "Dundock, Ireland" living in Houghton Street, Newton-le-Willows, Lancashire.

1901 as Ellen Powell, she is head (married) aged 51

1891 as Ellen Powell, wife, aged 44

1881 as Ellen Naylor, she is head (widow) aged 33 - Andrew Connor as Andrew Naylor aged 16, born Ireland (not located him after this census).

1871 as Ellen Naylor, wife, aged 24 - son Andrew Connor listed aged 6yrs, born Ireland (step-son to head)

((all in Newton-le-Willows, Lancahire))

I don't know anything about John CONNOR - maybe O'CONNOR now!?!

Thanks again

Best wishes,
Ian.

Hi

Good news and bad news:

I got an early xmas gift from a friend - bapt record and a marriage record:

RC Church marriage
Dundalk, Co. Louth
May 1864
John O' Connor to Ellen Garvey
(no ages, no occupations, no address, no fathers)
witnessed by: Peter Sands & Merian Kennedy
notes: T. Hardy

//

RC Church bapt
Feb 1847
Ellen Garvey
of Ballybarrack, Haggardstown, Co. Louth
parents: Henry Garvey & Cath McCartney
(no occupation listed)
sponsors: Daniel McCartney & Jane Brennan

 - confusing as father's name on 2nd and 3rd marriage certificates as John Garvey, blacksmith but age would match this bapt/birth year!   :-\ ???

Oh what to do next!!!

 :o

best wishes,
Ian.

I know it's been almost nine years since this was posted, but I might have some info on the Henry and Ellen Garvey noted above. If you're still researching this, let me know.
