If anyone has any information on the above surnames from the Newry area please let me know.

Mullaglass Parish Church seems to be both families church.

You will probably get a better response if you include names, dates and places in your post as well as where you've already searched and what information you are looking for.

There are so many Lambe's in that area that I will take any information regarding that surname.  My main focus dates are between 1800 and 1900.  My ancestors Sarah Lambe b. 1846 married in Mullaglass Parish and her father was William Lambe a farmer.  There is also a connection to an Anna Sarah Lambe b1872 who married Thomas H Irwin whose father was a William Lambe also a farmer.  I am not sure if the William Lambe is the same?  Anna Sarah and Thomas Irwin emigrated to America.

Thomas H Irwin was a stone cutter and his father was either of the same name or William Irwin.

Mary

Thanks for this.  I already had the information from emeraldancestors.com.  It doesnt help that Mullaglass Parish Church hold their own records rather than at the PRONI.

My main problem is that my ancestor's mother Sarah Lambe was born 1846 while Sarah Anna Lambe was born 1872.  In a census record my ancestor is living with Anna Sarah Lambe and refers to her husband Thomas Henry Irwin as his cousin.  This would indicate Sarah and Anna Sarah are sisters.  However, the age gap between the two seems to big to be sisters?

Could the father have been married twice and the girls half-sisters? Actually only 26 years between their ages- if mother was say 20 when elder born she'd only have been 46 for teh younger one- quite possible.

Would anyone know the best way to contact the rector of this church as I have tried telephoning and emailing but to no avail.

Unfortunately the records for this church are in local custody so the PRONI is not an option.  I'm beginning to think the rector isn't too keen on genealogists!

Church of Ireland website should list contact details but if no answer by email rector's hardly likely to respond to letter in post. It is a busy time of the year- perhaps try phoning again in January- if rector doesn't have the time to look up the records they might be able to suggest someone else that would be allowed to help you.
