For both John Allen & for James Craig there are a number of Margarets I have located on the BDM site, all with a calculated birthdate of between 1860 and 1862 if you accept their accuracy

Hi Graeme

Mmm ... yes I'd looked at the Balclutha site, but more with a Margaret ALLEN or Margaret CRAIG in mind ... and hoping there might be a burial record.   :-\

The Margaret CRAIG entry - Owaka School APW - suggests this might be a child (although equally the record could refer to a parent/guardian of a child ?).

Ah well, at least two of the others now eliminated.   :D

1890/1 Gt grandfather John Greer arrived in Port Chalmers with his wife Eliza Anne, son William, and father William

Hi Graeme

Not sure whether you've found the record for their journey to NZ ?

At "findmypast" website > >

GREER -   London to Wellington - 1890

- William (Adult) /  Eliza Anne (b. 1870) /  John (b. 1864) and William (b. 1890)  :

Hi Lu

more good work

Your shipping reference is correct, and they continued on from Wellington to Port Chalmers.

I may just have to get copies of marriages for Allen & Craig in the hope that this will confirm or elimate Margaret Greer

As an example of age inaccuracies Eliza Ann was actually born in 1873.

Thanks

Graeme

Hi Graeme.

I'm also looking for information on my great grandparents John and Eliza Greer. My grandmother was one of their 14 children.  I can not find anything on her. She was minnie Gladys known as Gladys Marie. If you have any information which could help it would be great.

Thanks Deanne MacMillan
