Gee's in Leicestershire
« on: Friday 27 November 09 20:14 GMT (UK) »
I have had trawled  through the census records and FamilySearch.org for the following line:

****Alfred Gee (1862 or 1864 Leicester) Shoe finisher m. Elizabeth Ball (1863 Oakham)

*** Thomas Gee (1827 or 1829 Blaby) Framework Knitter m. Mary A Watts (1831 Hinckley)
***[1851 census confusing - no sign of Mary Ann, may not be married yet? There is a Thomas down as Stocking Maker from Barkby with a one year old]

**William Gee (1795/6 Blaby) Stocking Weaver m. Charlotte Bann (1798)
or ** Thomas Gee (1786 Blaby) Agricultural Labourer m. Mary ........

*Marmon? Gee (Mamon perhaps) 1766 m. Sarah Wood

*John Gee 1712 m. Eunice Freer
~~~~~~~~-------------------------------
**** Certain
*** Iffy ............ my assumptions based on Village and Type of work.
** very Iffy............ based on Village.
* probably tosh
Anybody any reasonable suggestions please.
Martin
Not really understanding what you are looking for her?
Are you searching for  the family of Alfred Gee 1862 Leicester and his descendants?
or ascendants
the 1891 census shows alfred and Elizabeth living in Leicester with a son Alfred..
the 1871 shows  this
Alfred West 25
Sarah West 22
Mary West 10 months
Thomas Gee 41
Mary Gee 40
John Gee 17
Charlotte Gee 14
Thomas Gee 12
Alfred Gee 7
Elizabeth Gee 4
1901 has this:
Alfred Gee 37
Elizabeth Gee 38
Charles William Stubley 15
Alfred Gee 11
Frances Gertrude Gee 8
Arthur Edgar Gee 7
Walter Sidney Gee 5
Thomas Gee 1
charles william stubley is down as stepson
Thanks Xin,
Sorry, did not explain myself very well.
The Elizabeth Gee in the 1901 census was married previously to a Tom Stubley who died hence William living with the Gee's.
I believe I have the Gee's correct from the 1861 census forward  in time but cannot accurately go back in time and am not sure what to do next.
Thomas Stubley married an Elizabeth Venable in June 1853 in Leicester..
a.n. other Thomas Stubley married an Eliza Dexter in Leicester also in 1853
Thomas died 1864
this is all toooo early for the stepson who is 15 in 1901 he would have been born in 1886
did I get the yr wrong when quoting 1901 census... ??  will check again
so still looking
Sorry Martin
I am getting a little confused here I think...
I have searched for marriages of Thomas Stubley to try and find Elizabeth 's maiden name..
what I can gather from you is   that you need to find Alfred Gees parents and his wife Elizabeths   therefore we need to find her maiden name..
but the ages dont add up for me... the 1901 census has Alfreds wife as 38 meaning born  1863 ... therefore marrying 1st time around 1883 / 1888  but to have had a couple of kids by 1901 and a.n. other marriage.................... is where I am getting confused.. I will leave it for now and see if I have more time over the weekend ..
But I am sure you will get help from someone with more brain cells than me......
Xin
FreeBMD gives the births of 2 Alfred Gee's in Leicester , in 1863 and 1864 (not 1862) - but one of these died in 1866.
Just to confuse the issue, there's also the birth of an Alfred Gee in Blaby in 1865!
Alfred m Elizabeth Stubley in Billesden reg district in 1889 (ie not Leicester town).
There are 2 possible Stubley/Elizabeth marriages - and since you mention Tom Stubley,  Tom Stubley m Elizabeth Ball Leicester 1885, and there was indeed an Elizabeth Ball whose birth was registered in Oakham in 1863.
In 1881, there are 2 Alfred Gees of the right age in Leicestershire. One lives in Countesthorpe, which is in the Blaby area; the other is in Humberstone Leicester, and is the son of Thomas and Mary Gee, siblings Elizabeth and Mary A. Thomas was born in Blaby, Mary in Hinckley and the children all in St Margaret's.
