TURNER family
« on: Wednesday 02 December 09 16:29 GMT (UK) »
Hi there,

I am looking into a family of Turner's I descend from. Clara Turner b. 1887 in Leek is my gg grandma. I have located her and her parents and siblings on the 1891 and 1901 census. Her father was Thomas (Tom) b. 1861, wetley rocks, staffordshire and her mother was Ellen (Pointon, I think, not proven!)
My problem is I'm struggling to go further back on the Turner line, I have found a possible family for Thomas being Father, George and mother, Emma.
Is there anyone that confirm or deny this?? Was hoping to find out without having to buy the cert!!
Also if anyone knows anything about the life of Clara, that would be great. Apparently she was a dancer, in what respect, I have no idea but I know she married Mowbray Missen and had a son Horace by him and 2 other children after he was killed in ww1, that had the Missen name!
Thanks for reading  :)

Sorry, I can't help directly - my TURNERs are from the Derby/Nottingham border.

However, regarding the two 'posthumously' sired children... have you checked that Clara did not remarry - another Missen?

Hi,

My Great Grandmother who married her first son Horace says not! They were illigitimates, no one knows the full story surrounding their births  :-\

Danielle...

Just had a TERRIBLE shock!  I read your reply and it was ages before I realised the you Gt Grandmother had not married her own first son!

I know there are skeletons in most people's trees (certainly found some in mine!), but... phew... at least it isn't incest!  Lol

Hello.  Clara (she pronounced it as Clare but with an "a") was my grandmother, and her youngest child, was my mother.  She had 2 children with Mobray: Thomas, who died in infancy, & Horrace.  She then had Cyril & then my mother, Doreen.
Can you tell how you're related please?

Hi Danni,
If you are still needing help with your search then I can help you with some of your questions as Clara Missen, ne้ Turner, was my grandmother, and my mother was her youngest child.
Kind regards,
Pauline
