Daniel Mills King Laragh
« on: Friday 04 December 09 10:35 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Does anyone know if their is something like a Thoms directory in Wicklow that I can find out anything about the above name.

I know he owned 200 acres in Laragh... he was an esquire and his father who was also called the same name died in 1818.

There was Micheal, Joseph, Thomas and Daniel as brothers... anyway I can get church records for these to help me.

Anyone know of any books that might mention them?

Any help on this I would grateful appreciate as I am at a loss on this side of my Family. There was Protestants if that can help in any way.

Can anyone tell me where the C or I church for Kingston would have been in the early 1800's.

Also where would people have been buried at this time near Kingston/Rathdrum?

that location is a problem - that's why I put all the ??s after that detail in the other topic.

Kingstown (now Dún Laoghaire) is nowhere near Rathdrum ...

found Thomas Mills King listed (under the Ks) as a county Wicklow magistrate in 1848 - his address is given as 'Kingston, Rathdrum'  So it sounds like Kingston may be the name of his residence or estate. The post town of Rathdrum would fit with a location near Laragh.

so that Kingstown concern was a red-herring..

he is listed under the Rathdrum section in Slater's directory of 1846 which is available online at : http://www.failteromhat.com/slaterl.htm

The Rathdrum page is here : http://www.failteromhat.com/slater/0393.pdf  his residence seems to read 'Kingsgate' on this entry.

found Kingston as a townland near Rathdrum - see google map Rathdrum - Kingston

according to the townland database it is 144 acres - so some of Daniel's land must have been in adjacent townlands.

A list of subscribers to Samuel Lewis topographical directory of 1837 shows  :

"King, Thomas Mills, Esq., J.P., Kingston, near Rathdrum, co. Wicklow"

Hi,

I recently went to the RCB library and checked some of the church records in Rathdrum...

I check Rathdrum C of I and Castelmacadam church records and could not find any Mills King's listed...

Does anyone know which other church would the records for the Mills King family be in? They lived in Kingston, Wicklow and where would they be buried.

Thanks
Ann Marie

see the Civil parish map on the Times website at : Co. Wicklow, Civil Parishes according to these detals, Kingston is in the parish of Castlemacadam... maybe the church they attended was in one of the other nearby parishes, e.g.    Ballykine, Redcross etc. Unfortunatly I understand that  the CofI records for the parish where Laragh is located (Derrylossary) have been lost.
