DE PARAVICINI marriage at Exeter 1815
« on: Sunday 06 December 09 08:53 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
Family sources tell me that Joseph de Paravicini married Sophia Bent at St. Thomas the Apostle, Exeter, in 1815. Their eldest son James Prior de Paravicini was born in 1812 according to the 1851, 61 and 71 census and his death aged 59 in 1872 supports this.
Perhaps the marriage was earlier, say 1811ish.
Can anyone please find the Baptism and Marriage dates.
Thanks.  Ron G.

The marriage date of 1815 is from an extracted record of the parish registers, and is also reported in several online scans of biographies. See http://books.google.com/books?id=LHKBWAz9MMQC&pg=PA365&lpg=PA365&dq=''JOSEPH+BARON+DE+PARAVICINI''&source=bl&ots=6s7nuOgTvL&sig=uC5aNE2PjtRutY5Gkrcan2Ky4OE&hl=en&ei=Ag8cS7euO9SOtgeQx_n2CQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=2&ved=0CAoQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=&f=false for example.
This was posted on an earlier Rootsweb as a transcription:
The Times, Monday, Jul 19, 1852; pg. 9; Issue 21171; col A
records the marriage (on the 17th july) of James Prior De PARAVICINI, married by his brother Rev Baron Francis De Paravinci at St. James Paddington (and beforehand at the Catholic Chapel, St. Helena, Bayswater). James is the eldest surviving son of the late Baron Joseph De PARAVICINI, and grandson of the late Brigadier-General Baron De PARAVICINI, Colonel of the Regiment Vigier, to Valentina Antoinette, only surviving daughter of the late John Morice, Esq, of St. Helen's-place.

I would suspect that you will have to search Catholic registers to find the baptism of James Prior De PARAVICINI.

Thanks DOB7 - The plot thickens.  I see that "Nobilities of Europe" says the marriage was at Taunton.
At least I now have a lot of other info on the family.  Thanks for pointing me to it.

This is a very helpful tip, suggesting one googles names etc when researching anyone. I do this as a matter of course for whoever I am researching and have often found useful information, for example certain Old Bailey records 'popped up' for one of my 'earlier' ancestors and I discovered not only his early profession but also other offspring of his I knew nothing about.

Happy Googling!

Hi Debbie,

Ah Ha! Google Books "The Nobilities of Europe" p365 tells me the marriage was at Taunton, not Exeter.
Just goes to show that it pays to check unsupported data received.  ::)

Cheers, Ron.

Just in passing I see from parish registers that a Francis de Paravicini was curate of St Nicholas Hail Weston Huntingdonshire in 1847-9
