I've promised to do an Alnwick look-up for someone else on here when I go to the archives on Wednesday.  Be happy to add this to my list.

Hello Christine

It 's very kind of you to offer I do appreciate it.

The reason for the timescale wondered if George had an earlier marriage.
He was born c1742 in Sheffield I think. Frances Dudney was about 15years younger than him so it's possible. George was in the Army (Duke of Northumberland's Regiment)
George worked at Alnwick Castle for about 35years and died there in 1814.
At least 10 children all born Alnwick.

Sorry for the ramble but wanted to give you some background information.

A big thankyou.

Hi Pam,

No good news today I'm afraid.

For a start by the time I was ready to look at the microfilm relevant to your query someone else was using it.  She kindly let me have a quick look while she did something else but I only got to check marriages from 1777-1779.  They are incorporated into the banns so take some time to work through.

I didn't see your couple there and note that the IGI extracted records do not have the marriage listed either.  There are Kirks around the parish but no Dudneys so I'm wondering whether they married in her parish.

I won't be back at the archives until the new year but will have a better look then if you still haven't found anything else.

Many thanks for the time and trouble you took on my behalf.  I would appreciate any look up in the New Year

Further information to add to previous.

Forget about the Dudney connection in Alnwick possible she was born in Dublin c1758 which makes me think George had an earlier Marriage as she was 16 years his junior.

think their first child was Hugh (My G G G Grandfather) bap 1779 then George 1780  Catharine 1783
Frances julia 1784 Ann 1787 Henry Collingwood 1794 and John George 1801.
Hugh and Frances Julia named after their employers at the Castle  Duke and Duchess of Northumberland.
Thank you... Happy Christmas.

As you probably know George is classified as a porter at Alnwick Castle on all the baptisms.  On one of the bapts he is "native of Sheffield, Yorkshire", with Frances born Dublin.

Bapt 26 Feb 1794 son of George Kirk and his wife Frances, Alnwick Castle.

Did not see bapt in 1794 of Henry Collingwood Kirk

John Geoege's bapt August 1801 ( born 30 Mar 1796) is annotated as
" 7 of Geoge Kirk....  7th child or 7th son ??

Burial 14 Jan 1782, George, son of George Kirk.

Source.

Newcastle Library. Alnwick Parish( St Michael's) church records.Transcriptions dated 1923.

There was also a separate book of transcribed Alnwick Military bapts, marriages and burials, from St Michael's.... but no Kirk entries.

Hello Michael

Many thanks for all that information some I did have.

I have been trying for years to find out about George's time at the Castles he worked there for about 35 years but their Archives don't have anything. Strange .
He also served in the Dukes regiment and we have been told he was awarded a silver medal after 14years service but nothing to confirm this.

Thanks again I really appreciate it.
