Freakley
« on: Friday 11 December 09 19:03 GMT (UK) »
Hi All

I'm researching the Freakley family around the country.

Grt Grandma  Mary freakley born Mill Meece, Eccleshall, Staffs 1856

Most people with the name come from Staffordshire, but having trawled the net, I can find no-one who has come up with an explanation of the origin of the name.

Anyone out there with any ideas please?

Hi Poppylouise

Welcome to Rootschat!

Thanks for your post. North west Kent seems to have about the biggest population of Freakleys after Staffs. I have some notes of then at Deptford and Greenwich, but I'm still trying to gather info on that area.

Are you new to family history or just Rootschat? Let us know what your interests are.

Hi Poppylouise,

When I said notes that was a bit presumptuous. What I have is the 1881 census for a (large) family in Deptford and the BMD index entries for about 10 people who'se births were registered in Greenwich, which I believe is near Deptford. There are quite a few more in London, surrey and Middlesex.

If you let me know some details of your grandparents we might be able to set you off in the right direction if that helps.

Hi again Poppylouise

From the 1911 census I found that Albert Victors parents were William James Freakley (born Bromley by Bow, Essex)and Ellen M. (born Greenwich, Kent)

I couldn't find their wedding in the indexes or William James in the 1881 census so I raised a post in London , Middlesex which gave this result.

I'll try and tidy this up.
